Cain’s outstanding runs have garnered her the Bronxville Daily Voice Student-Athlete of the Month award for January.

Cain opened her month with a trip to Seattle for the University of Washington Indoor Preview. Cain was one of two high school female runners in the 3,000-meter run. She won the race, covering the distance in 9 minutes 2.10 seconds, shattering the national indoor standard for high school of 9:17.4 established in 1991.

Cain had a busy Jan. 25 beginning with the Scholastic Aptitude Test at 8 a.m. Once Cain completed the test, her father brought her home to change and grab a quick bite before leaving for the Armory Track in Manhattan.

Once again, Cain was the only high school athlete in the race, the mile. Cain finished third and did so in high-school record time. Cain ran the mile in 4:32.78,  eclipsing the former record of 4:38.5 set in 1972. Cain also set a new 1,500-meters standard with a time of 4:16.11. The old record was 4:18.9 established in 1978.
