Bronxville Wraps Up Memorial Celebrations

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. - For Leeann Leahy and Julia Meade, Bronxville PTA Co-chairpersons of the Memorial Day weekend celebrations, the events have been a labor of love and a whirlwind of activities.Beginning with the bake sale on Friday morning, continuing with the James E. Kearney Run held first thing Saturday morning and ending with today's carnival, Leahy said the whole weekend has been about the community, and creating ways for families to spend time together. Even Mother Nature has been cooperative."The weather has been as beautiful as the spirits of our friends, family and neighbors," Leahy said. The event is expected to exceed the roughly $30,000 that was raised last year, Leahy said. The money will go towards funding PTA grants and awards for the 2011-2012 school year.In addition to the run, festivities included a dog show, a pet adoption opportunity, and a community picnic, which included all sorts of races and competitions. The weekend will end with a carnival held today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
