BRONXVILLE, N.Y. Polls in Bronxville will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, for elections to fill two seats on the Village Board.
Despite the fact that incumbent board member Anne Poorman and newcomer Guy Longobardo are running unopposed on the Republican ticket for their seat, elections must be held, and village officials are urging residents to vote.
Poorman, 52, has been a Bronxville resident for 19 years, and has served on the Village board for seven years. She is running on the Republican line.
Poorman, who is an attorney,said she has overseen two most arduous accomplishments in her time on the board.
"The first was executing the first full tax reassessment in nearly 40 years and the second was achieving zero percent tax increase two consecutive years by examining all programs and costs with a microscope. Wondrously, we accomplished the zeors without being instructed to do so by the governor," Poorman said.
Poorman said she will make a priority of addressing street lighting in the Village during her next three year term.
"One of the challenges on the horizon for us is to install new and improved downtown lighting. I have suggested to the mayor that a citizens committee be formed to have knowledgeable residents sift through the many options," Poorman said. "The historical conservancy has been a great help so far because we trustees claim no expertise in luminescence or municipal streetscape planning. I believe we have talented residents who might have valuable input."
Longobardo, 50, has an undergraduate degree in economics and a law degree from Columbia University and has lived in the village since 1969. He is running on the Republican, Independent and Conservative lines.
Flooding will be high on Longobardo's list of priorities once he is sworn in.
"The repeated flooding in the area of the school and Garden, Meadow and Tanglewylde avenues and in the Paxton Avenue/Parkway Road area disrupts the village, in addition to having a financial cost. It disrupts our school, disrupts our children's educations, disrupts the lives of residents and disrupts businesses in the village. FEMA recently recommended funding approval for planning and design work on a project that will help mitigate some of the impact of storms, particularly in the area of the school, and it is essential that this project be assessed and pursued in a cost-effective manner as expeditiously as possible," said Longobardo. "This requires the efficient marshaling of the engineering, planning, financial and construction resources and coordination with the school administration. I believe that this is something that I could help with."
All voting will be held at Village Hall in Bronxville.
