BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- You know it's summer in Bronxville when you see crews from the village Department of Public Works doing roadwork.
"We do most of our road projects beginning in August, and we do our best to have them finished by Labor Day, before school starts," said Rocco Circosta, Bronxville Superintendent of Public Works.
Circosta's department was allocated $350,000 by the Village Board for roadwork projects this year.
"Some of our business owners on Pondfield Road wanted to redo sidewalks, so we pictched in and did work on the curbs at the same time," Circosta said.
In addition, Kraft Avenue was repaved and a new crosswalk, with a cobblestone appearance like the one outside Starbucks, was added at Cedar Street and Kraft Avenue.
Still to go are repaving projects on Governors Ridge and Leonard Road, and paving on parts of Tanglewylde Road.
"We will probably do some smaller streets, or portions of streets before we are done, but we have not decided where just yet," Circosta said.
Circosta said it is important for crews to be done by September not only to accommodate the opening of school, but to give the village time to deal with another issue.
"We always have a big problem with leaves, and we have to get ready to deal with that," he said.
