Bronxville Church Dedicates Day To Animals

BRONXVILLE N.Y. - Bronxville residents and their pets showed up for the fourth annual "Blessing of the Animals" ceremony and pet adoption day Sunday afternoon at the The Reformed Church.

About 60 animals showed up for the blessings, most of which were dogs, said Marilyn Wellbrook, administrative assistant for the church.

"All of the animals came in around the same time, so it was quite a sight," Wellbrook said. "Every animal received an individual blessing from one of our ministers. They also received a certificate with their name on it, and a little St. Francis of Assisi ribbon, the patron saint of animals and nature."

In addition to the blessings, the Yonkers Animal Shelter brought several cats and dogs all looking for loving homes, Wellbrook said.

"We had one kitten adopted and probably another dog will have a new home soon too," Wellbrook said. "We did have a lot of people inquiring about the animals, so hopefully they will eventually see the right ones for them."
