Bronxville Carnival Benefits Healthy Snack Program

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- The only charge for admission to the carnival at Bronxville Elementary School on Saturday morning was a cup full of loose change and a nutritious snack.

The proceeds from the carnival sponsored by the school’s PTA will be donated to the Junior League of Bronxville for their smart snack program.

"This is a great way for our kids to get involved in reaching out to help others," said parent Larissa Modesitt, who ran the event with Josely Angelone. "Every year we pick a different charity and this is a good match because it supports outreach in our own community."

Kids at Bronxville Elementary School were given plastic cups to fill with change. When they arrived at the carnival on Saturday their change was added to a big bucket. Last year the carnival raised over $3,000.

Carnival games, popcorn, cotton candy and face painting were all available in the elementary school gym.

Junior League of Bronxville President Lisa Rao said the league provides healthy afterschool snacks for 125 kids in Yonkers, Tuckahoe, Eastchester and Mount Vernon.

“This is the first year we are doing it and it has been a great success,” Rao said.

She added that many league members are Bronxville residents and moms.

"This is a great partnership, we love this partnership between the PTA and the Junior League and we are very grateful," Rao said.
