Michael Perrier, 24, of Yonkers was charged with grand larceny and burglary following an investigation into a report filed by hospital security that an unknown man had entered an office at the hospital on Oct. 19 and stole a checkbook from a desk drawer and keys to a 2008 Ford Escape owned by the hospital, police said.
The man used the vehicle to escape from the hospital grounds and later tried to cash a check from the stolen checkbook at a Chase Bank in Patchogue, police added.
The bank became suspicious and contacted the hospital employee. Using video from both the hospital and the bank, Bronxville police were able to identify Perrier and began to search for him in Yonkers and in Suffolk County, police said.
After surveillance at both locations, Lt. Richard Bunyan and Det. Sgt. Richard Anderson located Perrier behind the wheel of the stolen Ford Escape in a residential neighborhood in Suffolk County, police said.
He is currently being held at the Westchester Department of Corrections. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 26.
