EASTCHESTER, N.Y. The March 20 village elections are quickly approaching and even though incumbents Janette Hayes and Steve Quigley are running unopposed for the two open seats on the Tuckahoe Village Board, The Daily Eastchester is asking candidates to weigh in on pertinent village topics.
Quigley is the first of the two candidates to have his answers published. He is running on the Democratic line. Hayes's Q-and-A will appear on The Daily Eastchester later this week.

What ballot line are you running on?
Democratic
What qualifies you to be a village board member?
I have served on the village board for the past three years. During that time, I have learned a great deal about how our village operates and feel that I have contributed to ensuring the continued efficient and comprehensive delivery of the services our residents have come to appreciate and expect.
Civic organizations: Co-founder and first president of the Tuckahoe School Foundation; Assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 353; Volunteer teacher for the Immaculate Conception Parish School of Religion; Member of the Immaculate Conception Parish Council.
What have you accomplished as village board member?
As a lawyer, I believe I bring a strong analytical ability to resolutions, proposed legislation and other issues that affect the manner in which our village is governed. As the only Democrat on the board, I provide, when needed, an independent viewpoint. Also, within the time constraints imposed by a busy job in Manhattan, I have devoted evenings and weekends to local events, meeting and talking to village residents.
What are the three biggest issues facing the village today?
1) Maintaining the expected level of services (police, sanitation, public works) within the double barrel assault of uneven economic conditions and a state imposed tax cap.
2) Managing and controlling growth especially regarding the three proposed residential developments.
3) Preserving and enhancing that which makes Tuckahoe special the events (with much appreciation for the Generoso Pope Foundation) and the openness and accessibility of all our public servants and village hall staff.
If elected, or re-elected, what would you do about them?
Carefully and thoughtfully review and appraise proposals for development and other changes to the village in order to ensure that they comport with not only Tuckahoe's Master Plan, but my own sense of what is appropriate. Scrutinize all aspects of the village government, staff and services to ascertain the essential services and then determine how to provide an efficient means of delivering them.
