No Problem in Bronxville

If you walk during business hours around Bronxville commercial district, you are likely to see parking enforcement officer Ronald Flores in action, Auto Cite in hand. Carrying the portable machine that issues parking tickets (officially called an Auto Cite), he sweeps streets and parking lots with fast steps, checking for irregularly parked vehicles.

Flores, 45, a Mount Vernon resident born in Costa Rica, has been working for Bronxville Parking Authority for 14 years. Although his job keeps him busy, he doesn't see irregular parking as a concern in Bronxville.

"We don't have any problem with people. They pay their tickets on time," Flores said on a recent morning. "They go to the store and stay there for an hour, knowing they will get a ticket."

A ticket for exceeding the parking meter time is $20, but few seem to mind, he said.

"This is a very wealthy town," Flores said, with a tinge of pride.
