The honor was presented at the June 5 baccalaureate service at Village Lutheran Church.
Christopher Kinghan was born on March 16, 1988. He was baptized and confirmed at Village Lutheran Church and also attended The Chapel School. He died unexpectedly on Jan. 5, 2013.
Christopher's mother, Carol, and the Kinghan family, set up the Christopher P. Kinghan Heart of Giving Scholarship to remember Christopher’s legacy and to encourage a deserving Chapel School student entering The Chapel School sixth grade who exemplifies Christopher's love of giving and helping others, said the announcement.
On July 31, 2014, Carol died of cancer. To remember both Carol and Chris the scholarship has been permanently renamed the Carol and Christopher Kinghan Giving Hearts Memorial Scholarship.
The recipients of the scholarship honor their memory, and demonstrate "joyful hearts in their generation through their Chapel School education and their lives of service," said the release.
“Christopher was an amazing young man and is dearly missed. This award celebrates well his caring spirit," said the Rev. Dr. Robert Hartwell.
“Ciara Wolf truly has a heart of giving and exemplifies the spirit of kindness seen throughout our Chapel School student body. She is a worthy recipient of this wonderful award and I was pleased to present it to her on behalf of the Kinghan family," Principal James Dhyne said in his remarks.
