BRONXVILLE, N.Y. Bill Lobleys voice can be heard all over television and film as the voice of the Animal Planet network and in animated films such as Ice Age. He said he traces his love of comedic acting back to his - very - early beginnings in Bronxville.
I think I really became interested in acting at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville when I was born, Lobley joked. Basically in the womb. Matter of fact, when I was slapped in the behind when I was born I gave a soliloquy. There was never a question it is what I always wanted to do.
Throughout his school years Lobley took part in plays and art classes, honing his craft, and eventually went on to major in film at Fordham University. In the beginning Lobley struggled to find work as an actor - until he responded to an ad for a voiceover.
It was for an industrial company that needed a voice for a cartoon character, he said. But it wasnt for TV. It was for sales meetings and trade shows.
Lobley spent the next couple of years writing and creating characters for companies and traveling all over the country.
I was basically doing puppet shows for grownups, he said. It was exclusively for corporations, but I was getting paid to write and create.
Lobley would go on to join the Groundlings East, one of the premier improv companies in the country and the breeding ground for sketch comedians. From there, he performed on various shows generating enough buzz to sign with an agency. Lobleys career as a voiceover professional began to take shape.
With what I do now you just never know what your day is going to bring, Lobley said. That can be anything from 10 auditions in a day to doing billboards for the Animal Planet and what that basically means is Ill say something like coming up next on Animal Planet only Im doing it in different animal voice each time."
Lobley said he enjoys working on video games because his children think its the coolest thing ever.
Ill get a call from one of my kids where they ask, Hey are you in Bioshock? And its a great feeling to say yes, he said. They think I have a cool job and it definitely beats working a 9 to 5.
