The students are taking a course on The Holy Ministry in Urban Context. They have visited and will be visiting many churches in the New York metro area. The class, taught by the Rev. Dien Ashley Taylor, pastor at Redeemer Lutheran in the Bronx, focuses on observing and learning about local congregations, their operations and how the pastors and congregations interact and what their duties and practices are.

“It was so nice to share our unique ministry with the seminarians and to hear their interesting questions,” the Rev. Robert Hartwell, senior pastor at Village Lutheran Church and The Chapel School. During the St. Louis students’ visit, they toured the school with stops in a few classrooms, joined in a prayer service, witnessed the Chapel School Select Choir in action and listened to a lecture by Cardinal Timothy Dolan. Village Lutheran Church and The Chapel School are at 172 White Plains Road.
