Bronxville Attorney Laurie Rockett Dies at 69

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Laurie R. Rockett, formerly of Bronxville, died March 12 in Valhalla. She was 69.

A nonprofit advisory attorney, she was married to the late Fredrick C. Rockett. She raised her family in Bronxville, where she lived until 2010.

Raised in Danbury, Conn., Rockett graduated from Barnard College with honors in 1964 and from Columbia Law School, magna cum laude, in 1970. Rockett began her career at the Hudson Institute but worked most of her life as an attorney in New York City. 

She specialized in nonprofit corporate advisory and author representation, also pioneering women's health services and related legal rights. Last October, Rockett and her firm, Rockett & Smith LLP, were named by Avenue Insider's Legal Elite as one of the top women's attorneys for nonprofit and charitable organizations.

Surviving are her children Nathaniel Rockett and Charles J. Rockett, her siblings Charles and Jons Rogers, her stepchildren Grant and Abigail and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at The Reformed Church in Bronxville.
