The incident began around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4 at a home on North Regent Street in Port Chester, when police were called to the scene after reports of an individual barricading themselves inside, according to the Port Chester Police Department,
Officers quickly began working to ensure the safety of all people both inside and outside the residence, the department said.
After several hours of negotiations, the situation was resolved when the individual surrendered and was transported for treatment and observation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
Port Chester Police Chief Christopher Rosabella commended his team for their professional handling of the situation.
"The department utilized their training to effectuate an outcome that we are all very proud of," Rosabella said, adding his thanks to the Westchester County Police Special Response Team for their assistance.
Village officials also commended law enforcement for their handling of the situation.
Mayor Luis Marino expressed gratitude for the dedication and service of the Port Chester Police Department, saying he was "very proud that the incident resolved without injury to any party."
Village Manager Stuart Rabin added, "Our Port Chester Police Department brought a safe resolution to this afternoon’s incident with professionalism and a commitment to safety and training."
