BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Eastchester couples looking for a different Valentine’s Day date need travel no further than Bronxville this year, as Lyte Body Fitness prepares to host a unique yoga class geared toward couples.

From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the night before Valentine’s Day, couples of all experience levels will be welcome to join the workshop, which is one of the few of its kind in the area. In addition to the romantic workout, there will also be a champagne and chocolate tasting for attendees.

For some, the idea of working out and breaking a sweat doesn’t equate to romanticism, but co-owner Roger Martin said that it is a unique experience designed to bring couples closer together. Couples will learn particular poses, as well as ways to assist one another to deepen their stretching at home.

“Couples yoga enables partners to work toward a common goal by breathing together and trusting one another through the poses and postures,” he said. “Whether it is through eye contact or touch, the practice requires equally open communication from both participants.”

The class, like all classes at Lyte Body Fitness, will be taught by Roger’s wife, Lily, who holds a master’s degree in exercise science. She has become something of a fixture in Eastchester, having opened Life Force Fitness in Tuckahoe in 2010.

“We’re trying to create a new paradigm in fitness. One where you can enjoy movement and exercise while not dreading having to go,” she said. “Life is hard, why exhaust yourself. We find new ways to bring out the life force and energy of people.”

According to Martin, the group yoga class will allow couples to enjoy a date night the day before the holiday, without having to compete with the craziness that surrounds Valentine’s Day.

“We wanted to offer an experience to our clients where they could come and celebrate Valentine’s Day in a more intimate setting, without the hustle and bustle of a typical dinner,” he said. “Yoga can be very personal and what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day then by sharing it with the person they love.”

The two-hour class will be more gentle than an average yoga class at Lyte Body Fitness, with the hour-long stretch being followed by the champagne and chocolate, to “create an even sweeter evening” on the eve of Valentine’s Day.

“There is a special connection between the mind, body and breath that occurs when one practices yoga,” Martin said. “That connection only strengthens and becomes deeper when you practice with the one you love, creating an even stronger bond.”
