Last year was the pageant's 100th anniversary. After 20 years at the helm, Susanne Shoemaker is passing the organizing baton to new co-chairs Sarah Normand and Ruth Walter.

"We have been so impressed with the ecumenical nature of the pageant and with the commitment and enthusiasm of all the volunteers who make this such a great community tradition in Bronxville," said Normand. "If you are new to the village or a longtime resident, please come in rain, snow or dry weather to see live animals, the Nativity scene re-enacted, angels on high and lots of shepherds."

Parishioners from all seven Bronxville churches participate on a rotating basis to make up the cast of the living Nativity. The audience sings carols, and clergy from the seven churches perform readings.

"Children can watch Mary ride in on a live donkey and settle in the manger surrounded by live sheep," said Walter. "Last year we had the added excitement of a camel for one of the kings to lead, which really was a wonder."

The pageant is funded entirely by donations. Donors can send contributions to Bronxville Christmas Pageant, P.O. Box 397, Bronxville, NY 10708.

The Reformed Church of Bronxville is at 180 Pondfield Road.
