EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – There’s a new destination in Bronxville for residents looking for a place to improve their mental, emotional and physical health.

Lyte Body Fitness, the Milburn Street training studio that celebrated its grand opening last month, has become the village’s “one-stop shop” for those looking to get in shape peacefully without the traditionally steely interior of a modern gym.

Lily Martin, who holds a master’s degree in exercise science, co-owns the business with her husband Roger, who handles the business side of the studio. Lily said that it was important to create a different environment for her clients who stressed tranquility and mental well being, as well as physical.

“We’re trying to create a new paradigm in fitness. One where you can enjoy movement and exercise while not dreading having to go,” she said. “Life is hard, why exhaust yourself. We find new ways to bring out the life force and energy of people.”

The studio, which is approximately 2,000 square feet, features three separate rooms that allow for a more or less strenuous workout. One room features a bright window and earthy tones on the wall, a station fit for yoga and peaceful exercise. The second is equipped with a massage table and the third is adorned with mirrors and what few pieces of equipment Lyte Body features.

“Just like there’s a balance in life, we tried to maintain a balance here,” Roger added. “Each of the rooms compliments each other and balances one another out. There’s space for a closed, inward exercise or a more intense, outward workout.”

The Martins have been active in the community for several years, with Lily opening her first studio, Life Force Fitness, in Tuckahoe in 2010. Her gyms include weights up to 25 pounds, equipment to improve core strength and balance, a treadmill and other low impact features.

“We are a place that people can go to lose weight, sure. But this is also a place to strengthen the mind. We’re trying to give people more of an experience,” Lily said. “People can meet their goals here, but also leave feeling renewed and restored.”

Presently, the training studio is specializing in one-on-one personal training, but the couple’s plans for the business include a variety of yoga classes – which will begin next week, followed by Pilates and other fitness classes in the coming months.

“We really love California, so down the road we would love to set up shop there and be bi-coastal,” he said. “We’re catalysts, we’re about giving people what and who they want. We facilitate the work for them. It’s not about us, it’s about the client. We’re just a conduit to help them.”
