Bobcats Sighted At Nature Preserve In Westchester

Although bobcats usually don't like to make their presence known, two of the creatures were captured on camera at a Northern Westchester nature preserve.

The two felines were sighted on Thursday morning, Nov. 14 at the Old Field Preserve on Mead Street in the Lewisboro hamlet of Waccabuc, according to the Lewisboro Parks and Recreation Department.

In a social media post, the Parks and Rec Department shared photos of the bobcats and said such sightings "highlight the importance of preserving natural habitats for wildlife to thrive."

"If you’re out enjoying the preserve, keep an eye out – you might just catch a glimpse of these beautiful animals. Remember to respect their space and observe from a distance," the department added.

According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, bobcats can be found in 13,500 square miles of the state and often make their homes in places such as rocky ledges and rock piles.

They are usually not found in human population centers but use patches of habitat within them when they are not completely isolated by urban development, officials said.
