Briarcliff Families Enjoy Memorial Day After Rain

After morning thunderstorms cleared up, people in Briarcliff came out today to watch friends and family march in the Memorial Day parade.

“I think it’s a great day to remember,” said Linda Hoyer who came from Boulder, Colo. to watch her grandchildren march in the parade. “I think it’s important to honor our veterans.”

Jianping Wang watched her 18-year-old son march with the Briarcliff volunteer fire department.

“He’s learned a lot being a volunteer firefighter and we’re very proud of him and our local fire department. They train these young men when they’re boys, and they become men,” she said. “Memorial Day is a wonderful occasion to remember those who made sacrifices for us.”

Christine Rohde said her three children were having a great time at the parade watching fire trucks and police cars pass by.

“It’s a great day to teach our kids about what Memorial Day is, and we’re thankful of the great weather after the thunderstorm,” she said.

The parade started on Pleasantville Road, passed through Larch, Oak and Ash Roads and ended at Law Memorial Park.

“It was a really nice parade,” Jules Putterman of Milwood said. “We came out to eat at The Patio restaurant and I said, ‘Oh look, they’re having a parade,’ and we took a seat by the window.”
