Medical Care Building's Structural Stability Damaged In Northern Westchester Crash (Update) Crews had to shore a compromised part of a Northern Westchester medical care building after a vehicle crashed through its wall.  The crash happened on Thursday, Dec. 12 around 2:45 p.m., when a car crashed into the Optum Medical Care building at 342 Route 202 in Somers, according to the Somers Volunteer Fire Department.  According to the department, arriving fire crews began shoring the building's compromised area while removing the driver from their car. 'Startled' Cat Rescued From Apartment After Oven Sparks Blaze In Northern Westchester A cat was rescued and returned to its owners by firefighters after an oven sparked a fire inside a Northern Westchester apartment. The blaze began just before 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6 at an apartment building on Sunset Trail in Croton-on-Hudson, according to the village's fire department.  Arriving crews found smoke coming from the building's ground floor and the floor above before forcing their way into a lower-level apartment. City Demolishing 'Zombie Property' With Multiple Fire Incidents In Westchester A city in Westchester is demolishing a "zombie property" that has been an eyesore and safety hazard for more than a decade, officials said.  The property, located in Mount Vernon at 151 Union Ave., has been vacant since 2012, according to city officials.  Since then, it has been the site of multiple fire incidents and has received 10 violations. 'Imminent Danger': Town Demolishes Unsafe House, Charges Owner In Mount Pleasant A derelict house in Northern Westchester was demolished after town officials repeatedly tried and failed to get the owners to repair it. The residence, located in Mount Pleasant at 354 Manhattan Ave., was taken down on Tuesday, Jan. 17 by town employees.  The decision to demolish the house was made because of the threat it posed to public safety. Because it had a hole in its severely damaged roof, water and rodents were able to enter the home. Members of the Greenville Fire Department, Greenburgh police and paramedics were all dispatched to the Central Avenue condo complex at approximately 2:30 p.m., following reports of a driver in an SUV who had driven into and through the brick facade of the building.
