Pace Drops Second Game, Loses to Manhattanville

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University baseball team dropped its second straight game and second overall of the season with a 24-12 non-conference loss to Manhattanville College on Wednesday. 

The Valiants (4-1) scored 19 runs in the first two innings, while Pace scored 11 of its 12 runs in the final three innings. The Setters scored three times in the seventh inning and five times combined in the eighth and ninth innings.

James Pjura continued his hot start to the season by going 2-for-2 on Wednesday with an RBI double in the first inning. Chris Roemer went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. He hit an RBI single in the fifth inning and an RBI double in the eighth. Kyle Turnier also had two RBI in a 2-for-3 day with three runs scored. Turnier had a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and an RBI single in the seventh inning.

Brian Sundberg had an afternoon to forget on the mound as he allowed 10 runs and struck out just one batter to lose his first game of the season. Patrick Maher then took the mound and allowed nine runs of his own in just one inning with two strikeouts. Robert Perez pitched four innings, struck out four batters and allowed just one run.

Chris Gili pitched two thirds of an inning and Patrick Chaputian pitched the last one and one third innings with two strikeouts.

Pace now travels to Winter Park, Fla. to play seven games at Rollins College. They will face Northeast-10 Conference foe Bentley University in the first game on Sunday at 4 p.m.
