Ossining Spartans Excel at Felix Festa Swim

CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. – Thirty-five swimmers from the Ossining Spartans Swim Club competed at the USA Swimming Felix Festa Sharks Swim Meet, posting impressive results in the three-day event hosted by the New York Sharks Swim Club Friday-Sunday.

Sammy Novo place sixth in the 10-and-under girls’ 200-yard backstroke, 100 breaststroke and ninth in the 200 freestyle, and set a personal best in the 100-yard freestyle. Novo also placed well in the 100 backstroke, 100 individual medley and 50 backstroke.

In events for girls 12-under, Emma San Martin also placed well and posted significant time drops in the 200 back, 500 freestyle, 200 free and 50 freestyle. Spartans coach Greg Bernstein took special notice of her 1:32:21 finish in the 100 breaststroke, a 16-second time drop.

Thomas Overacker took 10th in the 11-under 200 free, finishing in 2:32:00 with a four second drop.  He swam the 500 free in 6:44:32 and posted a 1:30:98 in the 100 backstroke.   

Alex Carrazzone swam in three events, the 12-under 200 freestyle, 50 butterfly and 50 free, where he posted personal best times.

Nico San Martin, 13, seized bronze in the 14-under 200 free with his 2:02:72 finish.  He took fourth overall in the 50 free, seventh in the 500 free and ninth in the 100 backstroke.

Caroline Overacker posted consistent time drops in each of her four events; the 500 free, 200 free, 100 backstroke and 50-yard freestyle. Emma Del Principe’s best race of the meet was her 200 IM for girls 14-under, which she finished in 2:59.35 with a 16 second drop.  Del Principe also stood out in the 100 backstroke, 100 free and 100 breaststroke.

Katie Flynn, swimming in the 14-under category, dropped nine seconds in her 100 butterfly to finish in 1:15:20.  She improved her 200 IM and 100 free times. Molly De Maine finished the 14-under 200 free in 2:30:34 and the 100 back in 1:20:08.   

Emily Rocco placed 10th in the 10-under 50 butterfly and took eighth out of more than 120 girls in the 50 free. Rocco also excelled in the 100 backstroke, 100 free and 100 IM. Stella Meyerhoeffer placed eighth out of 56 with in the 10-under 100 breast, posting a 12 second drop and placed high in the 100 back 100 IM, 100 and 50 free events.

In the 10-under girls’ 50 freestyle, Hailey Roksvold showed dramatic improvement, dropping three seconds to finish in 35:58. Ryan Roksvold swam the 10-under 50 free in 44.52 and the 100 IM in 1:52.93. Gavin De Maine swam three events for boys 10-under and posted drops across the board.

Alex Lee similarly posted time drops in his two events, the 10-under 100 free (1:18:85) and 100 breaststroke (1:52:93) and Gabby Santana improved her times as well in her girls’ 10-under events; the 100 free, 50 fly and100 breaststroke in 50:98.      

Sarah Kamal took sixth out of more than a 100 girls aged 10-under 100 breast, to finish in 42:99.  Yousef Kamal placed 18th in the 10-under 100 IM and 20th in the 50 free.   

Allison Hogan posted a drop of seven seconds in the 10-under girls’ 100 back and dropped a second in the 50 free to finish in 36:57. Maggie Ford dropped five seconds from her time in the 10-under 100 free to finish in 1:22:38 and Max Saich swam the 10-under 50 breast in 52:19 and the 100 IM in 1:44:87.   

The Spartans invites interested swimmers through age 17 to train with and compete on the team, with individualized training one to six days per week on a monthly basis. The team offers professional coaching with four experienced swim coaches in the state-of-the-art Joseph G. Caputo Community Center pool in Ossining.
