Briarcliff high jumper Harry Zimmerman returned home Sunday from the New York State Public Schools Track and Field Championships as the fifth-best jumper in the state in his class.
Zimmerman, a junior who was a Section 1 representative in the NYSPHSAA Division II classification, jumped a personal best 6-feet, 3-inches to take fifth. He jumped 6-0 last week to qualify for the state meet, just short of his previous best of 6-2.
My dad ended up flying out to Rochester to see me compete, Zimmerman said. The next increment was 6-6 and I had two very close attempts.
Zimmermans sister Madeline is a long jumper and triple jumper who made the Section 1 qualifier before missing the state meet by inches.
