Briarcliff's Young Is Eighth In Carter Cup Golf

SLEEPY HOLLOW – Defending champion Cameron Young, a high school sophomore from Briarcliff Manor playing at Sleepy Hollow Country Club, finished eighth Wednesday in his bid to repeat last year's win in the 10th Carter Cup, the Metropolitan Golf Association's junior stroke play championship at historic Baltusrol Golf Club.

New Jersey's Jared Mactas earned the first major win of his career by shooting an even-par 71 on the Upper Course to claim the title despite heavy rainstorms and lightning shortening the tournament from 36 to 18 holes.

Young, a student at Fordham Prep in the Bronx, finished with a 2-over 73 to tie for eighth along with fellow 2011 Carey Cup team member Clancy Waugh of Quogue, N.Y.; Jimmy Dengler Jr. of Rumson, N.J.; Luke Graboyes of Watchung, N.J.; Jacob Henny of Norwalk, Conn.; 2012 Met Junior runner-up Will Bernstein of New York, N.Y., and Ryan Rose of Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.
