WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Perfect Touch Soccer Academy battled for the state championship title and earned runner-up at the New York State Cup tournament on Sunday, June 8.
Hosted by U.S. Club Soccer’s New York Club Soccer League, the New York State Cup tournament is the highest level of soccer competition for boys and girls from U9-U18 age groups in New York.
Perfect Touch Soccer Academy, founded by Briarcliff High School girls varsity soccer head coach Owen Scully, was the first Briarcliff Manor-based team ever to reach an NYCSL New York State Cup final. While no stranger to state championship games at the high school level, this was the team's first experience in a state championship game at the youth level.
The Perfect Touch GU12 team’s journey to this final match started with group stage games last fall and playoff games in the spring. The final state championship match for Perfect Touch G01-02 was against a GU12 team from Ramapo Valley.
Jenna Dallinga, the head coach of PTSA G01-02, said, “I am not surprised by the rapid success of this team as they have worked very hard since forming last July, and they always leave everything on the field. After pulling off an overtime victory in our quarterfinal New York Cup game when we were down a player due to injuries, I knew we had a bunch of girls that were mentally tough and full of heart. I knew they could make it to the finals, as that was a goal they wanted to achieve. I look forward to continuing the journey with them.”
Perfect Touch SA G01-02 have a few more weeks of divisional soccer games left as they try to finish out at the top of their division.
