BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. Briarcliff used a combination of conventional and trick passing plays, the two biggest coming on passes from Colin Orr to Jackson Plimpton, in a big-play 19-6 victory Saturday over previously unbeaten Edgemont at Briarcliff High School.
The Bears, who were 0-8 last fall, ran their early-season record to a perfect 3-0 and handed Edgemont (2-1) its first loss of the season.
It wasnt our best game, Orr said. We played pretty sloppy and had too many penalties, but we were able to play good defense and make some timely plays.
Timely is right.
Plimpton caught touchdown passes of 75 and 49 yards from, who went six for nine for 178 yards. Plimpton had four catches for 164 yards.
The Bears opened the scoring on a 12-year pass from Ryan Hooper to Justin Marrero and Edgemont answered with a 35-yard scoring pass from Jackson Stone to Jake Barnes 35 pass from Jackson Stone. Both point after kicks failed and the score was 6-6 after one quarter.
Orr-to-Plimpton connected for 75 in the third for a 12-6 lead at halftime and the pair closed out the scoring with the 49-yarder in the third quarter for a 19-6 margin.
The Bears go in search of a fourth straight win when they host Yonkers on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Edgemont will try to rebound against visiting Irvington on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
