BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – A Briarcliff High School junior currently working with a professor at Harvard University is to have her research published for the first time in January.

According to a statement from the Briarcliff Manor school district, Madison Hennessy wrote the article “Photobiomodulation and the Brain: A New Paradigm” under the guidance of Prof. Michael Hamblin.

The article, focused on her study of transcranial photobiomodulation – also known as low level laser therapy – and its use of red/NIR light to stimulate, preserve and regenerate cells and tissues, is based on at least six months of research by Hennessy and Hamblin, according to the school district, which said the work will be published next month in the peer-reviewed scientific journal, The Journal of Optics.

“We are so proud of Madison,” said Melissa Carnahan, a science research teacher at Briarcliff, in the statement.

According to the school district, Hennessy has already begun work on a second article.
