The Briarcliff Manor Education Foundation said this week that it has approved a $97,000 grant for “innovative active learning spaces” in the middle school library and for the high school’s science research program and writing lab.
The foundation also approved $40,000 for initiatives in the middle school, high school, and Todd Elementary School.
According to foundation president Carolyn Linett, the new spaces will transform the way children are taught as “the district shifts towards a student-centered learning approach.”
Students, teachers, school administrators, and foundation officials put their heads together to come up with the concept and design of the centers, Linett said.
“We are delighted by the generosity, cooperative spirit and visionary support of the BMEF,” said Edgar McIntosh, the district’s director of instruction and human resources.
Student-centered learning helps to prepare children for “our dynamic and ever-changing world,” McIntosh said.
Calling the process behind the project “thoughtful and collaborative,” he said he was inspired by “the partnerships and outcomes.”
Superintendent of Schools Dr. James Kaishian said the funding is a "record" for the foundation.
Thanking the foundation for its support, Kaishian said its generosity “not only aligns with the needs of our students, staff and the administration, but the district’s vision for the future.”
