BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. -- Music educator and award-winning conductor Curt Ebersole led workshops recently for 125 music students at Briarcliff Middle and High Schools.
He covered topics ranging from breathing, articulation, phrasing, balance and blend to sound production, intonation, musical interpretation and artistic communication.
“Ebersole’s engaging personality and thoughtful comments prepared and inspired our young musicians and improved their performance,” said high school band director Marc Tartell.
“In Briarcliff, we constantly strive to create a vibrant and inspiring performing arts learning experience for students of all ages.”
Prior to Ebersole's visit, each band practiced a specific piece, which they performed during the workshops The worked with Ebersole on ways they could improve their work.
“It was really interesting,” said Sophie Underwood, a junior and president of the high school band.
“It was a change from our regular instruction because we focused on one specific song and all the details about the musicality. It was really helpful to pinpoint specific beats. It was a great opportunity, and anything that exposes the band to outside music is great.”
