"Briarcliff's A Team was the only team to go undefeated through Saturday's preliminary seven rounds," said Desmond Groarke, the team's advisor. "Returning to the finals on Sunday, Briarcliff again was undefeated and captured the title for the third year in a row."
Groarke continued to say that the performance and the three consecutive victories at the April competition were unprecedented in the tournament's 26-year history.
The school district congratulated the students, who included team Captain Ryan Klarnet, Alex Jacobs, Feroze Mohideen and Tommy Praeger.
In addition to the win, Klarnet received a trophy for second highest number of points scored in the league. For the season, Mohideen finished fourth.
The Academic Challenge A and B teams are scheduled to compete again in Washington, D.C. from June 2 - 5.
