Eliassof joined the Briarcliff Manor office of Houlihan Lawrence in January as a real estate salesperson. After a stint teaching elementary school, he decided to switch to real estate in summer 2013. As a side job, he also joined friends to start NoMa Comedy earlier this year, bringing comedy acts to clubs throughout Westchester County.
“Real estate and teaching are both common to helping the community,’’ Eliassof said. “In real estate, you interact with members of the community and help them build their future, finding their next home. In the school setting, you are helping the students get to their new place, helping to build their future.”
Eliassof dabbled in real estate before joining Houlihan Lawrence and made a business out of renting timeshares at a vacation property in upstate New York. He also serves on the board of directors of his condominium association. Both roles were instrumental in his deciding to make the career change into real estate.
“I thought about it for over a year,’’ Eliassof said. “I finally said, let’s give it a shot. The condo board gave me experience with property management and gave me a taste of what real estate could be."
Eliassof attended Iona Preparatory School and continued on to the University of Scranton. He obtained a master's degree in education from Pace University. “I loved being around the students and having an impact on their future,’’ he said. “I enjoyed doing it, but it was time for something new.”
Although it's still fairly new, Eliassof has enjoyed his career as a full-time Realtor. “I like the idea of helping people in the community find the right home,’’ he said. “It’s nice to know a family is going to build their future here. It’s the largest financial transaction a family will ever make. My commitment is to serving them. They’re putting their faith in me to work together with them to find the right home.”
Eliassof’s passion away from the office is working with NoMa, an acronym for North of Manhattan. He works with friends Frank Pellegrino and Rich Delayo to bring New York style comedy to Westchester County. The new venture launched in February. “It's something I enjoy and I think it will be great over time,’’ Eliassof said. “It has really taken off over the last few months.”
While there is frequently angst during career changes early on, Eliassof said the transition to real estate and Houlihan Lawrence has been smooth. “I have a lot of help here with the transition,’’ he said. “It has been great. The market is turning around and the demand for housing is rising. I feel it’s the right time to be breaking into it.”
