Suspicious Fire At Bedford Hills Correctional Facility Under Investigation

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Officials are investigating a fire that broke out in a garage at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility Sunday night, according to New York State Police.

The Westchester County Fire Cause and Origin Unit and the New York State Police in Somers are investigating the fire as "suspicious," said police.

An employee at around 5:15 p.m. reportedly discovered smoke emanating from the maintenance garage, located on the exterior of the secure portion of the prison property, according to police.

The Bedford Hills Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished a small fire located in the locker room area of the building, said police.

A civilian employee was treated and released from Northern Westchester hospital for a complaint of dizziness, according to police.

The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Office of Special Investigations is assisting with the investigation, according to police.
