Westchester Lifts Its Hudson River Advisory

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Hudson River in Westchester is now safe for recreational activities, the Westchester County Department of Health announced Wednesday morning.

Residents are free to swim, fish, windsurf, kayak and jet ski without worrying about coming in direct contact with the water. Previous advisories had been in effect after a fire broke out at a New York City Waste Water Treatment plant last week, causing sewage to spill into the Hudson River.

Officials sampled the Hudson River for pollution; the results of that testing lead the county to lift its advisory.

Officials had previously lifted the advisory for all points north of Hastings on Monday. Wednesday’s announcement clears areas south of Hastings for recreation activities.
