Walgreens Breaks Ground in Ossining

A new Walgreens pharmacy is expected to open in Ossining in the fall. Construction for the nearly 10,000 square-foot store got underway recently at the corner of Croton and Clinton Avenues.

Nearby r?esidents seemed pleased about the development? and not bothered by the ?s?o?u?n?d? ?o?f? heavy machinery digging up pavement?.

?"I think it's good because sometimes I need some small things from the pharmacy, and it'll be easy, very close," said Claudio Quezada, the owner of a ?n?e?a?r?b?y? building next to the site? ?o?f the Tierras Tropicales restaurant. "And it's better for me because the Walgreens will have security cameras."

Blanca Herrera who lives in a neighboring apartment complex agreed that it would be convenient ?t?o? hav?e? a Walgreens next door.

"I go to CVS now, or the ph??a?r?m?a?c?y? down in the downtown," she said. "With this (Walgreens) there, I'll have everything right by my door."

The Walgreens property is being developed by Infill Development, an affiliate of Tarrytown-based DLA Management Corporation. The company oversaw the purchase of the land, the signing of the Walgreens lease and the sourcing of a $6.3 million construction loan from Hudson Valley Bank??.?

The ?f?u?t?u?r?e? Walgreens site ?????????????????????w?a?s? ??a? ?c?o?m?mercial strip with a Chinese take-out restaurant, a pharmacy and a dollar store. According to Ossining Mayor William Hanauer, those businesses have either moved or closed.

"They've been going through the planning board committee process for a while," Hanauer said?. ??????????????????????????????"???????T?h?ey have a construction permit and they're moving along."
