Student Cut With Knife During WCC Fight Wednesday

VALHALLA, N.Y. – A pair of students argued over a stolen laptop and one of them was cut behind the ear during the altercation on the campus of Westchester Community College Wednesday morning, according to Westchester County Police.

“We weren’t ‘shut down’ and it was not a stabbing,” said Patrick Hennessey, the Westchester Community College Director of College-Community Relations.  “Several people got into a fight on the main campus in Valhalla earlier this morning then they left the scene.”

Kieran O’Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County police said that at 7:45 a.m. a student who said he recently had his laptop stolen from his car went to class and ran into the man he claims stole it.  The two had a confrontation in the hallway of the Academic Arts Building and the accused called a friend while the alleged victim called two friends.

O’Leary said there was another confrontation in a campus parking lot and the alleged victim received a superficial cut behind his right ear with a knife or a boxcutter.  The student went to his next class anyways, but after seeing the blood his teacher made him go to the nurse.  After being treated the nurse sent him to nearby Westchester Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

O’Leary said four of the five involved in the fight are Westchester Community College students, but it is unknown at this time if the fifth person is a student.  There are approximately 13,000 credit students and 13,000 non-credit students who attend the school according to Hennessey.  Although not much more information was available, the school did post a brief statement about the event on its homepage

The incident is still under investigation by the Westchester County Police.
