PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. In a bid to cut costs, the villages of Pleasantville and Briarcliff will once again team up with the Town of Mount Pleasants Highway Department to share services of purchasing various road materials.
The cost saving is that were not going out for the same items, Mount Pleasant Highway Supervisor Peter Sciliano said. We have a municipal agreement and they work off of us.
Each year, the town of Mount Pleasants Highway Department puts in bids or proposals to companies to purchase items such as asphalt, salt, piping, etc. The municipal agreement allows Mount Pleasant to include the village of Pleasantville as well as the village of Briarcliff in its proposals in order to keep costs down for each community by buying in bulk. The municipal agreement was passed by the Pleasantville Board of Trustees earlier this week.
Pleasantville Village Administrator Patti Dwyer said the agreement saves the village over $10,000 a year.
It is really good because it saves us a lot of money, Dwyer said. When you have the opportunity to bid the aggregate and save some money its always a plus so its a nice little agreement we have.
Sciliano added that the shared services in the road departments go beyond just purchasing products.
With Pleasantville, we help them garner their brush or if they need a truck of some sort well help them out so our departments work very closely to save costs in that way, Sciliano said.
Sciliano said the close proximity of the municipalities makes the arrangement a no-brainer.
Were all eventually using the same type of stuff, the same blacktop, the same products, Sciliano said. Its basically all one town anyway and we should be doing that, and I think it should be done more in other areas as well.
