Locals Huddle Around for a Giants Super Bowl Win

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Local fans of the New York Giants gathered at Sleepy Hollow sports bar The Huddle on Sunday night to watch their team win their fourth Super Bowl, the second in four years.

“It’s just awesome,” said Sleepy Hollow resident John O’Conner.  “We’ve beat their butts twice now. It got a little close there towards the end but we’ll take it, obviously.”

The 21-17 come-from-behind victory over the New England Patriots was reminiscent of the Giants’ improbable Super Bowl victory over the Patriots in 2008.  The Giants found themselves down 17-9 early in the third quarter before climbing back into the lead with a rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter by running back Ahmad Bradshaw as the bar’s crowd erupted with hoots and hollers.

Hastings resident and Giants fan Cameron Virrill knew going into the game that it was not going to be an easy victory.

“With this Giants team, it’s never going to be an easy or a pretty win,” Virrill said.  “You always have to be prepared for agony.”

Perry Yeldham, of Ossining, was the lone Patriots fan in the bar packed with Giants fans.  Yeldham lived in the Boston area for 30 years before recently moving to Westchester.  Although he was devastated by another loss to the G-Men, he admitted that he saw it coming.

“Going into this game I was terrified of the Giants because they just match up great with the Patriots,” Yeldham said.  “I was actually really hoping that the 49ers would have beat the Giants in the NFC Championship game so that we could have played them instead.”

Yeldham said he is a frequent visitor of The Huddle on Sunday afternoons to watch the Patriots games on one of the bars many flat screen televisions.  As for being the lone New England fan in the Beekman Avenue bar on this fateful Sunday, Yeldham was a bit surprised.

“I was at least hoping that there would be a couple other Pats fans here to watch it with me so that I wasn’t the only one but I guess not,” Yeldham said.
