Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. Two candidates are looking to fill two open spots on the Briarcliff Manor Board of Trustees in the election in March.Mark Pohar and Robert Murray received the nominations from the Peoples Caucus of Briarcliff Manor in January. They are running unopposed for the seats being vacated by trustees Robert Mayer and Anthony Capasso, who will not seek reelection this year. Pohar was asked to complete a candidate questionnaire and some basic information. Below are his answers.

1. Why did you decide to run this year? Pohar: I decided to run for trustee to become more involved in the village and offer my services to the community. I have always given my time and experience to the community and want to continue to do so, now through the political process.
2. Have you run for political office before? Pohar: This is the first time that I am running for a political office.
3. What do you see as the biggest issues facing Briarcliff Manor in the next few years? Pohar: Biggest issues facing Briarcliff in the next few years are working on our tax dollars keeping them in the village to service our residents and the village.
4. How did the process work of being nominated by the caucus? What was your response to finding out about the nomination? Pohar: I was approached by a Briarcliff resident asking if they could nominate me for trustee. I agreed and was nominated at the January caucus meeting, accepting the nomination. I feel that it is very important that our caucus process be supported as over a 100-year-old process that allows residents to be a part of our village running without regard to political party and agenda. Without the caucus, I nor other residents would never have had this opportunity
5. If elected, what would you hope to accomplish before leaving office? Pohar: If elected it is my objective to continue the momentum of the board in accomplishing the goals set. I would also like to work to allow our residents' taxes to directly benefit and service our residents. Working towards a coterminous town/village.
6. How long have you lived in Briarcliff Manor and what do you like most about the village?Pohar: I have been a resident of Briarcliff for 17 years, living here with my wife Kerry and 3 children Shannon, Sara, and Sean. I like the residents' commitment to community and the richness of culture and tradition in the Village.
7. What about your background or personal history makes you an ideal candidate for the board of trustees? Pohar: My background in executing budgets, working in health care service industry, being able to provide quality care to patients and residents under shrinking reimbursement would make me an ideal candidate for the board.
8. If residents knew one thing about you, what would you want that to be? Pohar: I am committed to family values and have a strong sense of community. Dedicated hard working and I stand behind what I believe in.
