BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. If you like elite living and you have the money, here's an opportunity for you: One of the 16 villas on the Trump National Golf Club grounds is on sale for $1,899,000.
"It's fabulous. It's a lovely, lovely place. Everything is done according to Mr. Trump's specs, done to perfection," said Linda McLaughlin who is selling her villa in order to move with her husband, Tom McLaughlin, to Boca Raton, Fla., mainly for the better weather.
McLaughlin's three-bedroom, three-story villa overlooks the 17th hole on the Trump golf grounds. An arching staircase from the entrance leads to an extended loft that overlooks the first floor, and the lower level of the villa has a movie theater with puffy, reclining, black leather seats, an extensive wine cellar and a marble steam room.
For $30,000 per year, the McLaughlins have a "social" membership to the Trump pool and clubhouse where one can see the names of the rich and famous etched on gold plates attached to personal lockers in the changing rooms.
"Clinton was here on Wednesday, and Joe Torre is a member of the golf club," said McLaughlin, referring to the past president and the ex-manager of the New York Yankees.
In addition, Donald Trump and his family members visit their club often.
"Mr. Trump is very, very charming, just a lovely man," McLaughlin said. "He poses for pictures, he shakes hands with everybody."
The Trump club house includes a restaurant in which members must pay for their food on top of the $30,000 per year for club membership.
"Good living is expensive," McLaughlin said.
The McLaughlins used to live in Half Moon Bay in Croton-on-Hudson before they moved to The Villa's at Trump six years ago. McLaughlin said she found out about the villas because an ad for them was next to a New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle that she was doing.
"We decided to come take a look and I fell in love with the place," she said. "I fell in love with the whole ambience. If you need a light bulb changed, they change it. They move your car when it snows. It's concierge service and if you're a golfer, it's paradise."
McLaughlin said she will miss The Villa's once she moves, but she and her husband also belong to a club down in Florida. Their condominium in Boca Raton is right on the beach, McLaughlin said.
"We love it there and we've been talking about moving for a very long time. This time we finally bit the bullet," she said.
