Zegarelli recently posted a village manager report on water company United Water and recent reports that residents have been “blitzed with a mailing regarding insuring your residence for emergency repairs to the water service.” Zegarelli said the company is using the name “HomeServe” to call Briarcliff Manor residents and proposing insurance coverage on water service. But the company has no connection to the village, Zegarelli said.
“Please view this as a wholly unsolicited proposal on their part,” he wrote in the report. “There is absolutely no involvement or affiliation with the village of Briarcliff Manor.”
The village “owns and operates the transmission of water from the (New York City Department of Environmental Protection) aqueduct siphon to our pump stations, storage tanks and through to our local distribution lines to your curb stop,” he said in the report.
The village has made previous requests to United Water to “cease and desist” from contacting residents and soliciting customers for the insurance.
“As far as we are concerned, we view this as an intrusion to the good order and operation of our municipal water system at best and a potential scam at its worst,” he said in the report. “At the proverbial end of the day, the choice is yours to make.”
