The Briarcliff American Legion post will be leading the annual parade through downtown?????? this ?Memorial Day??. Joining the Legion will be village and school officials, girl and boy scouts, soccer teams and others who decide to join the parade. The Fire Department will march at the back of the other marchers. ??
It will start at noon, passing through Pleasantville Road, Larch Road, Oak Road and Ash Road, and ending at Law Memorial Park for a ceremony.
Eric Hauser, a recent graduate of the Coast Guard Academy, will give a Memorial Day speech. This year is the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War as well as the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
"It's just a day to honor those young men and women who went to battle and lost their lives and never came home" said Larry Reilly, commander of the Briarcliff Manor Post 1054 American Legion which has organized the parade and service. "There's no need to register. Everyone just joins in," he said.
