Municipal leaders throughout storm-battered Westchester County called in to a conference call with Con Edison Wednesday at 11 a.m. to find out just how long it would be before power was restored to the more than 200,000 homes in Westchester that are in the dark.
Instead of giving a time frame, however, Con Edison described its process for determining restoration times, Zegarelli said. The utility is just now establishing estimated times of recovery for various communities. A company spokesperson told the listeners that more electrical crews are on their way to Westchester from as far away as California. The first priority for the crews is to make the streets safe by removing trees that are hanging on electrical wires. Then they can start working on restoring power.
"Everyone's stretched," Zegarelli said.
There are 30 roads in Briarcliff that are closed due to downed wires. Of the three of the main roads across town that were closed, Zegarelli said one has been reopened and two others are expected to be open by this evening.
