BRAIRCLIFF, N.Y. -- Two Briarcliff Middle School students, Jared Boder and Jack Sendek raised more than $7,500 to win the “Student of the Year” title from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual Student of the Year competition.
Boder and Sendek came in as first runners up in 2015 raising $5,000. The Student of the Year Campaign is a 10-week initiative in which students from around New York City participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Candidates raise money in honor of a teen patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. The candidate who raises the most money at the end of the six weeks is named The Student of the Year.
Staff members from LLS helped guide candidates through the whole fundraising process, from help with letter writing and sponsorships to event planning. The amounts raised during the 10-week period, are secret and not disclosed until the Grand Finale Gala Celebration in April.
