Borgia Wins County District 9 Seat

OSSINING, N.Y. – Catherine Borgia was elected Westchester County Legislator for District 9, replacing Democratic County Legislator Bill Burton after his retirement and beating Susan Konig for the seat, according to unofficial board of election results. The election was won by 54 percent, with 90 percent of districts reporting Tuesday night.

“I will do my best to be a good representative for the people of this district so many people helped me in this race and I want to thank them so much,” Borgia said right before giving her daughters a big hug.

Borgia ran on the Democrat, Independence and Working Families lines. She is a former Ossining Village Trustee Ossining Town Board member and chief of staff for State Assembly member Sandy Galef.

Susan Konig, the Republican and Conservative candidate, is a former Croton Village Trustee and author of family humor. The candidate had support from the New York State Republican Committee.

Borgia ran on a platform of lowering taxes through shared services, using the example of combining the Ossining Village and Town police forces. She also boasted having more experience than Konig.

Konig ran on the platform of lowering taxes through shrinking government. She said that Playland, the Westchester County-owned amusement park, should be contracted out to a private entertainment company.

The position of Westchester County Legislator pays $49,200 and is part-time.
