Aquefest Celebrates Old Croton Aqueduct

OSSINING, N.Y — The seventh Aquefest will happen this weekend in six towns along the Hudson River.

Organized by the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct, the event starts Saturday in Yonkers, Sleepy Hollow and Ossining and closes Sunday in Irvington, Hastings and Dobbs Ferry.

It will have numerous activities, such as kite flying, yoga, painting, walks, bicycle riders, theater and others.

Many music acts are scheduled, including a performance by Grammy Award winner Tom Chapin, Sunday at 1 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry. He is the brother of the late folk singer and humanitarian Harry Chapin.

In Yonkers kids will be able to see the animals from the Greenburgh Nature Center make instruments from recyclables and join the “Bash The Trash” parade.

One of the main attractions is a tour inside the aqueduct tunnel, Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon in Ossining.

“We’d like to make an outreach to the community to make sure that the community understands the historical importance of this aqueduct,” said Mavis Cain, president of Friends of the old Croton Aqueduct.
