Mary Edwards, 90, Ex-Briarcliff Nursing Director

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Mary L. Edwards of Palm Coast, Fla., formerly of Briarcliff Manor, died Wednesday, April 25. She was 90.

A retired director of nurses, Edwards had worked at White Plains Hospital, Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow and Port Chester Nursing Home.

The daughter of Theresa Marinelli and Guerrino DiGiacinto, she was born Sept. 23, 1921, in Elmsford. Edwards graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School and White Plains Hospital School of Nursing. She also attended Westchester Community College, Pace University and the Hunter-in-the-Bronx campus of Hunter College, now Lehman College.

On Nov. 7, 1941, she married Ralph S. Edwards in White Plains. After working at White Plains Hospital, Mary Edwards served as director of nurses at Phelps Memorial Hospital from 1956 to the 1970s. She was also director of nurses at Sarah Neuman and Port Chester nursing homes.

Edwards is survived by five sons, Ralph, Rodney, William, Stephen and James; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at McMahon, Lyon and Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Church in White Plains. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.
