What does it take to attract savvy shoppers from all around the county and New York City to Briarcliff Manor? Owner Lynn Puro has found the winning combination with the March Boutique, which is home to more than 60 designers.
Ive always been interested in fashion. Ive always loved clothes and always wondered why there werent boutiques like in the city in Westchester," Puro says. "At March Boutique, customers receive real personal attention that you cant find in department stores.
Calling the March Boutique a bit of SoHo in Westchester," Puro describes her 700 square feet of fun fashion as classic with a twist. She adds, I am in the city all the time, probably once or twice a week. I research at a lot of boutiques in SoHo, Brooklyn and stay as up to date as possible.
Puro understands that the economy has changed the way customers shop. I think what has kept us in business is we are able to mix the high with the low. We have rethought our buying. I do many, many, many hours of research trying to find a lower price but have the same look.
In Briarcliff for nearly five years, she says she suggests mixing and matching. For example, a good combination may include a more pricey skirt with a lower priced, unknown top.
Making customer service an art, Puro calls regular customers when a new item arrives that she believes they will want. I try to make it easy for people. People who want the latest trend, but dont have time to go into the city, I am almost like a personal shopper. We have cultivated a nice group of clients.
She also is available by appointment outside her regular hours to make it more convenient for customers.
Now online at www.marchboutique.com, the boutique is being discovered by those outside the Hudson Valley and city. Im really the only store like this in this area. It brings people into town. I would love it if more shops came here, which would be wonderful."
