Firefighters, First Responders To Receive Tax Breaks In Westchester Thanks To New Law
To recognize them for the services they provide to their communities, volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers in Westchester will receive property tax breaks thanks to a new law. The legislation, signed into law by County Executive George Latimer on Thursday, Dec. 14, creates guidelines for property tax breaks for past and current volunteer firefighters and ambulance service members as well as their spouses, according to county officials. Dog Rescued From Icy Pond In Northern Westchester
Volunteer firefighters in the area are being hailed as heroes for rescuing a dog that fell through the ice of a Northern Westchester pond. At around 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 7, when Pleasantville firefighters were notified that a dog named Miller was stuck in Opperman's Pond and unable to climb out. Treasurer Pleads Guilty To Stealing $37K From Hudson Valley Fire Department, DA Says
A Hudson Valley fire department treasurer has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $37,000 from the department's coffers Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh announced Tuesday, Dec. 14, the plea of guilty by Christopher Nau, a Spring Valley Volunteer Firefighter to grand larceny. Nau was the treasurer for the Columbian Engine Company and served as the Assistant Treasurer for the Spring Valley Fire Department, the DA's Office said.
