Bus Driver DWI Charge Prompts Somers School District Review Of Transportation Policies
The drunk driving charge against a school bus driver in Northern Westchester has led to the Somers Central School District reviewing its transportation policies amid a cacophony of angry cry from concerned members of the community.
William Mendez, 61, of Somers, is under investigation for allegedly having inappropriate contact with students before his DWI arrest in Somers, when police say he had a blood-alcohol concentration of .22, nearly triple the legal limit, in an incident last month.

Two Students Injured After School Bus Is Rear-Ended In Northern Westchester, Police Say
Two students were injured after the school bus they were riding in was rear-ended.
The crash took place in Somers around 8 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 7, when a Royal Coach school minibus/van and a car collided near the corner of Route 202 and Miller Avenue, said New York State Police.
The only children on the bus were the two students, whose injuries were described as minor, when the incident occurred at a stop sign at the intersection, said Amanda Bergen, a spokeswoman for the Somers school district.

A popular high school teacher and coach in Northern Westchester has died at the age of 39.
Dominic Narcisco, a physical education teacher at Primrose Elementary School in Somers and a former assistant football coach at Somers and varsity boys basketball coach at The Harvey School in Katonah, died in his sleep on Monday, April 15 to the shock of the community. Narcisco grew up in Rockland and graduated from Tappan Zee High School.
