School Lockdown Drills Would Be Reduced Under NY Bill Some New York state lawmakers want to reduce the number of school lockdown drills that are held each year over concerns they could be harmful to students’ mental health. A bill sponsored by Democratic Sen. Andrew Gounardes and Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon would cut back the number of required lockdown drills from four per year to two. Schools would still have the option of conducting more drills if they chose to. Westchester High School Students Celebrated For Efforts On Gun Safety A group of high school students have been recognized for their local efforts to improve gun safety. Students from the Bronxville High School were among those celebrated for taking a stand in the debate on gun violence at the New Yorkers Against Gun Violence Westchester Regional benefit, which was held in Eastchester on April 26. Seniors Viena Pentikainen and Kiki Shinsato, sophomore Esther Devitt and freshman Michael Randall were invited to attend by Scarsdale Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, who was one of the honorees at the event.
